Track a missing psychopath in this horror game

Doorways: The Underworld is a first-person adventure game developed by Saibot Studios. It is a horror game that will challenge players to immerse themselves in a terrifying psychological experience. You play as a special agent with a mission of tracking a missing psychopath.

Doorways: The Underworld is the third chapter of Doorways. However, this is a standalone game and does not require the first two games. However, if you played its predecessors, you will find this game a little boring. It lacks gameplay diversity and does nothing to further the overall narrative of the game. It also has limited gameplay.

What is Doorways: The Underworld?

Doorways: The Underworld is the third chapter in the Doorways game. It is a standalone game, meaning you can download and play it without needing to play the first two chapters. However, it is a direct continuation of the same story. You play as the special agent Thomas Foster. You are tasked to find another killer, a crazed neurosurgeon responsible for a handful of deaths and disappearances.

Like its predecessor, the premise is not clear. As you play, you will see random notes indicating you are physically inside the killer's mind or that the killer is inside yours — but it’s never explained. Even the goal isn’t clear. You are to find the killer, but you merely recreate the sadistic details. The game also ends abruptly after a flashback scene with nary a speech nor a battle.

The game implies that the human mind is full of corridors. With this, you will find yourself exploring tunnels and hallways that are very dark. This relentlessly bleak environment makes for a suspenseful experience, but not for long. Sure the graphics are crisper this time but the textures are often muddy. The creature design is also lackluster, especially if you see them up close.

Cliche horror game

Gameplay and visual-wise, it seemed that Doorways: The Underworld is leading the franchise nowhere. The third in the series, the game still lacks the kind of compelling story or gameplay needed for a successful horror game. It has uninspired settings and enemies. The story is essentially irrelevant, and the gameplay is pretty limited. The graphics may have improved but they still do not hold a candle to other games.

PROS

  • Crisper graphics
  • Good voice acting
  • Flashback system

CONS

  • Tedious gameplay
  • Game ends abruptly
  • Lackluster monster design
  • Short play length
